Parable of the Sower- Third post (Shelby Gallant)

These chapters were, in my opinion, the most interesting to read. We see so much change in Lauren's life and we see her develop as a person. When Lauren's family passes away she is forced to fend for herself and figure out what she needs to do to keep safe. When she leaves the neighborhood wall I was shocked to see just how bad it is. I didn't expect it to be so brutal and it's hard imagining a future like that. Lauren's hyper empathy continues to be an issue for her as people nearby are getting brutally murdered. However, these chapters bring across a question in my mind: is killing another human being okay? Whether it's for self defense or to put someone out of their inevitable death- is it morally right?
The one redeeming part about these chapters seeing Earthseed start to spread. I get the sense that this is going to make things better for Lauren as she is now able to be more open about her beliefs and plans. It is normal human behavior to want approval and to want people to support you and even if Lauren won't admit it, I think she wants that too. Having people who share her ideals will make it possible for her to fulfill her desire to move up north and essentially "start over".

  1. I also found these pages to be the most interesting to read. A lot has happened in these pages and I can see the story going in many directions from here.
