In this chapter we are able to witness Kristen's beginning developments into maturity. Kristen has merely scratched the surface of womanhood as far as the physical aspect is concerned, but her intuitiveness and capability to deal with situations is that of an adult. She continues to rise above her family's dysfunction. Even though Kristen's efficient cause is that of a drunk and one who hides from the real problem, she has managed to handle herself exceptionally well and overcome troubling matters.
I am curious to see how Kristen deals with the loss of Mark. Her relationship with Mark was one of the few positive things Kristen had in her life. I wonder how she will cope with his death. She has dealt with struggle before, and dealt with it well, but I am not sure if she can do the same with this new turn of events. I fell inclined to believe that Mark's death may be the beginning to the destruction to Kristen's level headed personality.
