Chapter 6 Nate Garland

This chapter was pretty interesting to me. I would've never thought that Iversen would get a job at Rocky Flats, especially after the things that Mark told her. She needs the money, however, and I believe that in the capitalist system people have to do things they don't want to do to survive. Her secretary job seems especially mundane. It's funny to see the huge difference in her expectations of the place and how it actually works. I also think its interesting to see the change in her psyche. Years before, she wanted nothing to do with the place. It was dangerous and hazardous. Now, she refers to the Rocky Flats workers as "tough" because they keep going there even though they know the place is literally killing them.
Another disturbing thing I noticed from this chapter was the fact that nothing had changed the day after the big ABC Nightline special on Rocky Flats. People were there just like it was any other day, even though the obvious repercussions on their health were broadcast on national television. They even rationalized, with the one woman referencing a 30-year employee who had "nothing wrong with him". Its just amazing to me how people continue to hide or ignore the truth, even when its thrown in their faces.
