fbb ch. 7
I noticed that this chapter seemed to tell many personal stories. Each one was significant in some aspect. Kristen talks about Peter and how he worked day and night for years to get to the bottom of the Rocky Flats situation. Even though he was dismissed time and time again, it's people like him that wouldn't give up who were necessary to the process. Iverson mentions, "The delays are endless, and it's always one step forward, two steps back." This line sort of describes the entire book so far. Every time there seems to be some progress in exposing the truth, it is quickly shut down and hidden again. Now Kristen's has had an operation and still has no luck in finding out what is actually wrong with her. We finally see her reason for writing this memoir. After Iverson reveals to her sister that she is going to write about her father and Rocky Flats, she says, "I can't tell the story of the plant without telling the story of my family." This is very true. Rocky Flats and her family ended up being directly related in many ways. Every choice she made was in some way because of her home life. I find it very aggravating that Tamara chooses to ignore what seems so obvious. I have no doubt that her brain tumors are directly caused by her exposure to the plant. Of course blaming her sickness on that isn't going to make it go away, but acknowledging it could help spread awareness.
