“I have boxes of notes, employee news letters, newspaper articles, my journals, and a burning desire to research the full story of the plant... I want to write (Iversen 283). So now we know, Kristen’s ecperience working at rocky Flats is not doubt the reason she decided to write about it. It was something she was passionate about because it scared her. “I want to write about the two things that have frightened me the most in my life. Rocky Flats, and Dad’s alcoholism” (Iversen 283). I find it interesting that Kristen says she wants to write about things that frighten her, because if you think about it fear is very powerful. Fear can keep you from doing something or push you to work harder. I think maybe Butler’s fear of the future caused her to write Parable of the Sower. When i am afraid of something i often have to talk to someone about it, let out all my worries to help me feel better. Talking things out helps me cope with my fear, and for Kristin and maybe Butler thats what writing does for them.
