John Zim FBB Chapter 6

I was awfully surprised to see that Lauren got a job in Rocky Flatts. Although she needs to make money in order to survive in her town, it was rather unexpected that she would become employed after all the information she has. At first, Lauren had acquired the belief that working for Rocky Flatts was reckless, harmful, and detrimental, especially to one's health. Now, however, she feels that working for the town shows a strong sense of bravery and toughness. I wonder if Lauren's employment by Rocky Flatts has a relation to a lack of optimism and hope of change? I believe that she may have taken on the common hopeless perspective; "if you can't beat em', join em'." Her lack of safety in regard to contamination, for me, challenges her sense of judgement. I fear that Lauren is joining the system and thus falling victim to the town of Rocky Flatts.
