Full Body Burden Chapter 7

Kristen Iversen comes to a mid-life realization when she states, “I want to write about the two things that have frightened me most in life...Rocky Flats, and Dad’s alcoholism” (283).  After her whole life of denying and holding in her worries and frustrations of these two devastating topics, she finally comes to the conclusion that she needs to write about them.  Iversen’s memoir was based off of the idea of these two subjects and the fact that they were connected in the story and molded her in a way that did not quite fit who she truly was or wanted to be.  She describes how she looked everywhere for something interesting to write about, when the perfect opportunity was laid out in front of her her entire life.
After quitting his job for multiple reasons, Mark Silverman said “We may have done too good a job of convincing the public that we’re doing things safely at this site” (Iversen 288).  Silverman’s confession goes against everything that any Rocky Flat’s officials ever said.  He is basically admitting to himself that Rocky Flat’s is an unethical and immoral place and that they have lied about safety the whole time.  Although he tries to say this in a positive light, there is not much that a person can do to make such a horrible situation seem any better.
