Charity Webb The conclusion of Parable of the Sower

          The conclusion of Parable of the Sower leaves me with hope for Lauren’s group and the community she hopes to build on Bankole’s land. Even though the end of their journey was difficult and they lost Jill in a gun fight, they finally made it somewhere where they can begin to rebuild. I think Earthseed is going to grow and spread, at least around Lauren’s area, the fact that she is so young and determined gives her many years to spread the word of change. If they are able to find more people like them who are willing to work together and start a system of trust then there is much potential for the growth of their community. They have all lost so much but now they can start to rebuild. Allie now has no blood family but she has pretty much adopted Justin, so at least she has someone there for her. I think it's good that he came into her life because without him the loss of Jill might of completely destroyed her. He can keep her busy and give her purpose since he needs her and has chosen to stick by her side since the death of his mother.

            I was very surprised when Emery and Tori joined the group. I had not expected everyone to be so open to newcomers. Even though some were more weary of the mother and daughter than others there were no strong objections to them joining the group. I was also surprised at how they accepted Grayson and Doe a few days later, especially when they could tell something was off about him and that he resented the group company. In the end the new members worked out but it was very risky to allow them to stay at first. This book really made you think about how the future could digress. It’s terrifying to think that there could be slavery again and that you would have to pay for police who only end up hurting you more than helping you. I hope that the future continues to progress in a positive direction and that things don’t take a turn that sends us back hundreds of years.
