Final Post- Shelby Gallant

At first, the ending of The Parable of the Sower, left me very unsatisfied. I feel as though I read through the book thinking that at the end everything would be clear and we would know if Lauren and the others get to where they need to be. After thinking about the novel as a whole I came to the realization that this book wasn't necessarily a story about the fictional character, Lauren, but more of a way to warn today's society of what may be. As a society, I think we live very selfishly and carelessly. Butler created a very vivid picture of what the world may become if we don't step up and change the way we live. During the first few chapters I could never even imagine a kind of world like the one Butler creates; however, looking back, it is extremely possible. Many of us, myself included, look at the future as complete euphoria: technological advancements, space advancements, and so much more. This is the first time I've ever even considered that the future could be very dysphoric if we continue being so careless.
