Charity Webb: Full Body Burden Chap 1
Full Body Burden is Kristen Iversen’s story of what she actually
experienced growing up in Colorado near Rocky Flats. Rocky Flats is a nuclear
weapons plant that operated for years without being truthful of what was going
on there. The residents in the area around Rocky Flats knew a little of what
was going on but they were for the most part kept in the dark as far to the
dangers it presented to the communities. I think this book is also disturbing.
It makes you realize how much the government hides from the public. Not only
that but how much people avoid the dangers. Kris mentions many times that there
are things they just don’t talk about in her family and one of them is Rocky
Flats. Many residents knew what was going on but no one wanted to confront the
government on it. When Rex’s daughter, Kristen, died of cancer he wanted to sue
because he believed it had to do with the plutonium in the soil and the test
from California agreed but Rex and everyone in the neighborhood knew it would
cost too much money for something they were not sure they could win.
