Andrew Anthony FBB Chapter 3

Chapter 3 of Full Body Burden involves a lot of change that goes on in and around Kris Iversen's life. Rocky Flats is starting to affect more and more as time goes on. Kris mentions specifically that cattle are facing the effects from the radiation like the rabbits were. But more importantly The public is starting to all realize that the people at Rocky Flats are feeding them lies. They keep saying that everything is okay and that there are no negative affects on the environment that are caused by the weapons plant. The citizens are standing up for themselves now that they finally realize what the weapons plant is and has been doing to their world around them. More and more protestors show up outside the gates of Rocky Flats to express their views. This is a good start, but in my opinion I don't think they are doing enough. I believe that just standing outside the gates and protesting and saying you think what they are doing is wrong isn't changing the minds of the Rocky Flats officials. The officials relay don't care what the protestors have to say because they already know the stuff they are trying to tell them. That is usually the case with businesses when dealing with protestors. I mean protesting is a great way to get the attention of the public and the media, but it isn't very effective in getting your point across to the group you are protesting. That being said, I understand that this is taking place in the 1970s where protesting was a big thing, so it seems like it was probably the right thing to do at the time. I just think that if the people wanted to get the officials of Rocky Flats to listen and cooperate, they needed to go a little further than sitting around protesting.
