Chapter 3 Michael Weiss

Throughout our lives, we have all seen a movie about organized crime. In these movies, the mobsters pay off the cops and have illegal business'. They also go around beating up people and killing their rivals. The only people who can catch them are the government, who usually look like the villains but are in reality the good side of things. What if the government though acts like a crime organization? Who could stop them? When it comes to Rocky Flats, the government continues doing lucrative and corrupt things to keep the place up and running. In this sense they resemble a huge crime syndicate. People are paid off and forced to remain silent in order to serve their motives. If someone seems to get out of line, then they are ruined and said to be a lunatic. They continue to lie to the people using the excuse, "It is for the protection of freedom." This lie has contaminated the people, land, and animals around it with lots of radioactive elements. What good is a strong defense when the people who you are trying to protect are hurting because of it? I understand the need for this facility but I don't see why they can't move it to an unknown location that is not near a major population center.
The other part of this chapter I want to address is the deteriorating family situation. The father is now in jail and barely supports the family. The mother is scared beyond belief and the entire situation is terrible. This relationship describes in detail how abused women feel when they have a dangerous partner. This is eye opening and makes me think about who else puts up an appearance like they do.
