In this part of the text we see Lauren's group expand significantly from three to nine. The first to join them is Travis, Natividad, and Domingo. They are a family of three, a father, a mother, and an infant. Lauren describes them as their natural allies due to the racial diversity of their family. As they travel farther together the two groups begin to trust and look out for each other Another man named Bankole joined their party after the family of three. He bring another strong imposing presence and firearm to the group. He seems to remind Lauren of her father causing her to trust him more than she thinks she should. The last addition to their group is two sisters, Allison and Jillian. They are former prostitutes who escaped their pimps and are traveling north. They were saved by Lauren's group from a collapsed building. However, they did not seem very thankful to Lauren for her help and Lauren decides she needs to keep an eye on them.
Earthseed has been predominant in this part of the book. Lauren begins to share her versus with Travis and Natividad. Travis is at first skeptical and asks Lauren many questions but Lauren seems to think he is starting to believe in what she has to say. She also tells them of her dreams to start Earthseed communities. Zahra tells Lauren that she would gladly live in an Earthseed community where everyone looked out for each other. She also tells them about her dream to bring Earthseed to the stars. Marcus still hasn't bought into Earthseed, but it appears he may be coming around. Allison and Jillian aren't interested in Earthseed yet and called it a cult. Lauren now seems more focused on Earthseed now than before and has even thought about spreading it to other strangers on the highway.
I agree that she seems more interested in Earthseed than ever. I think she will continue to spread her ideas
