Full Body Burden Chapter 3 Jenny Pollack

I can’t begin to describe how bad I feel for Kris at the end of chapter three. Horrible things continue to happen to her. The contamination gets worse, her family falls deeper into a dark abyss, her father becomes worse, and the one person she truly loves passes away. At the age of eighteen to twenty, around my age, I definitely would not be able to handle everything she has gone through. I keep asking myself, will it get better? Will Kris have a happy ending? It’s surprising that she actually gets to go to college and create a life of her own. At least she has that part of her life to look forward to.

The people surrounding Rocky Flats finally begin to realize that the plutonium is coming from the nuclear plant. Tina’s family leaves and there are riots and protests. Will the protests work? Will Rocky Flats be shut down or at least have to stop being a nuclear plant? If the cattle and more animals are being effected by the contamination, how long do the humans have until it reaches them? Also, was Kurt’s sickness caused by Rocky Flat’s contamination?

Kris’s family has changed drastically from the beginning of the memoir. Her father no longer lives with them and he is so far gone in his drinking that her mother is scared of him. If everyone is frightened by him, why doesn’t Kris’s mom just divorce him? My last question is this, will Kris be okay after the devastating news of Mark’s death?
