Full Body Burden Chapter 2 Jenny Pollack

As the book continues, the Rocky Flats situation becomes worse. Plutonium now contaminates the soil and the communities that are surrounded by it. I could never imagine having to do nuclear bomb drills in school and constantly worrying about it. People are getting cancer more often. It’s awful that a thirteen year old boy has testicular cancer. I think it was extremely smart of Adam’s parents to move away from Rocky Flats. I wonder, will anybody else move away because of the contamination? Will anyone in Kris’s family get cancer? If the rabbits, horses, and chickens are becoming deformed and sick, will the plutonium reach all the people?

My favorite part of this chapter is when Ryan screams “I love you” to Kris. I thought it was adorable and happy that Kris finally had some attention. It’s upsetting how messed up her parents are. Her mother seems to be depressed and her father is a heavy alcoholic at this point. I think she talks about her horse so much because Tonka means the world to her. I think riding allows her to get away from her family. Even though her family is messed up, her parents try their best to make the kids happy and give them nice presents. I wonder, will the contamination get worse? Will Kris’s family fall apart?

  1. I agree that the best part of the chapter was Kris receiving a little notice from Randy. Though it was upsetting that we didn't know if she really heard it or not. Although with her being so shy, she probably wouldn't have answered even if she did hear it so for all we know, she did. I also agree with Tonka being the most important being in her life. Tonka definitely holds Kris' heart at this point because Tonka was the only one to always be there for her.
