Chapter 2: Rebecca Gold

Adam's family definitely made the right decision on leaving the town of Rocky Flats. As i talked about in my first post, I do not understand why a family would want to live in an area like this. There is so much going on thats bad why stay there? More and more people are getting sick. Even the animals are becoming affected by the plutonium. The horses are starting to become deformed and then evidently dying. As a horse owner myself, I know if this was going on where I lived, I would pick up my things, horse and move out. I also can relate to Kris because my horse, Tonto, means a lot to me. I couldn't imagine my life without him so I really am able to relate to her and feel the compassion that horses supply their owners. I can relate even more because when my parents got divorced, I relied on my horse to keep me strong. Just like Kris. Even though her parents are not divorced, they do not have a good family life. The father is constantly drinking and getting drunk. And the mother is very somer and does not show affection, as if she was depressed. Kris is depending on Tonka at this point to make her happy. I think coming up someone close to Kris will become effected by the radiation. Someone being either herself, or her family.

  1. I totally agree with you and think it was the best decision for Adam's family to leave the Rocky Flats area. I don't have a horse but I would still pick up my things and get as far away from the contamination as possible. I also wrote about how Tonka is her true happiness because her parents have too many problems. I agree with your last statement. I think something bad will happen to someone she cares about.
