Parable of The Sower pg 126-225
As I read this book I thought if Lauren’s father dies then that will mark the end of the community, but I was a little wrong. The community does go on for a little while although never the same as when Lauren’s dad was their “leader”. Once they are attacked by people from the outside it’s all over. On page 145 Lauren mentions how an ancient old oak tree in their community is on fire I took it as a metaphor for the end of their way of living in a safe walled community with neighbors they could rely on.
Lauren had said all along she would leave the community by herself and head north so it surprised me that she pretty willingly allowed Harry and Zahra to travel with her. Zahra had lived on the streets before so it would be an advantage for Lauren to have her for her knowledge of the streets. At first while traveling Lauren doesn’t tell the group about her sharing pain with others, and when she does Harry is angered but Zahra is pretty accepting of it.
During their travel north the group “adopts” another family, a mom dad and baby. This happens after saving them from a thief and pack of dogs.  This really surprised me because that seems incredibly dangerous considering the thieves and crazy people around them. To me it seems like throughout the hike north Lauren is acting like her father would have trying to help out or save as many people as she can.

The last part of the book I read is mainly Lauren trying to share Earthseed’s ideas with the group she’s traveling with. She says she’s not trying to preach her ideas to everyone, but to me it seems like she is. She knows how to since she grew up with a father he preached every Sunday.
