Loren Killian Parable of the Sower 196-244
I feel like a lot has happened in this section. I think it is completely irresponsible for Harry and Zahra to have unprotected sex. The last thing they need is to be traveling with a pregnant woman, and eventually lugging around a baby. They aren't thinking ahead in this aspect, and it isn't fair at all to Lauren especially when they aren't paying attention to their watch. Lauren feels the need to sort of adopt the family she helps at the water station. They are like her group, mixed race. When they finally accept her invitation, she starts to become more comfortable with sharing Earthseed. If Lauren was trying to change my religious beliefs I would most likely be skeptical at first. I think I'd eventually agree with what she was thinking because it really does make sense. They need to learn to stop trying to leave everything up to god because look where it has gotten them. It's time that everyone takes action, or nothing will be done. Travis and Natividad don't take too long to become trusting of the others. I guess they don't really have much choice though. It's a good thing that Lauren initiates letting outsiders into her group. In the end this will help them. Afterall, there is more safety in numbers. As they continue North I'm starting to feel like there isn't going to be any place better. So many people are traveling in the same direction for the same reason, but no one actually has any proof of it there really is a better place live. They pick up 3 more members as they travel. Now there's 8 of them, plus a baby. I'm anxious to see if this is actually a good thing, or if someone will end up turning on the others.

I fully agree that Zahra and Harry having unprotected sex is both dangerous and irresponsible. Not only can one of the two, or both, contract a sexually transmitted disease in which they could not afford proper medication to treat, the two could have a child. I also agree that Laruen, Zahra, and Harry expanding the numbers in their group is extremely beneficial. With a larger pack, the three will be less vulnerable and more of a threat.
ReplyDeleteI do agree that Harry and Zahra shouldn't have had unprotected sex, especially during their watch, but thinking in the time of this book... they were just doing something that can bring them a little bit of comfort or togetherness in a time period that seems so grim, lonely, and scary.
ReplyDeleteAs for Lauren letting her guard down and allowing more people into the group. I completely agree with you... she has been more trusting of people that she probably shouldnt be trusting, which could come back to hurt her.
