Full Body Burden
Chapter 1: Kasey Gould
The
first chapter of Full Body Burden to
me is telling us one: we can’t trust any large corporation in it for the money
and two: we can’t believe everything we are told. The employees at Rocky Flats
are not told anything and on a need to know basis. The factory at Rocky Flats
cares more about producing higher numbers of “triggers” than keeping their
employees safe. The factory leaks contaminants into the air on a day to day
basis which is then blown by winds into the surrounding cities which is
hazardous for everyone and also the land around it.
This
all takes place during the Cold War which is why I think nobody questioned the
factory or government. In the interests of national security I guess people
kept their questions and worries to themselves. The employees of the factory
that did have an idea of how dangerous the factory can be, the security guards
and firefighters, thankfully risk their own lives and health to limit the
damage and effects during the fire. The fact that these heroes then are not
allowed to even see their medical records is ridiculous to me. They risked
their own lives to save the lives of generations to come. This chapter makes me
really think about what I should believe and what I should question.
