Final Analysis of The Parable of the Sower – Kasey Gould
In the
final chapters of the The Parable of the
Sower, Lauren and the group make some pretty big decisions. First they
decide to let more people into their group that aren’t very trustworthy at
first. When the attack happens Grayson Mora almost leaves the group to save him
and his child. Their other huge decision is to stay at Bankole’s land even
though it had been burned and destroyed recently. I knew Lauren would do
anything to start an Earthseed community somewhere, but I didn’t think she
would do it in such an isolated and dangerous area. The only thing left of
Bankole’s family is their bones, and when reported to the police they take his
money and don’t do a thing more. This theme of corrupt authority and government
officials seems to go throughout the whole book. In the time they live in they
only have themselves to trust and rely on.
Lauren’s
toughness about and wanting to travel alone changes dramatically as she heads
north. First allowing Harry and Sahra, then more and more. I think she let them
in first as recruits for the first Earthseed community and then as help to make
the group stronger. I still think Lauren is the only one who will practice her
Earthseed religion and believe in it. Nobody else seemed like they seriously were
intrigued enough to just stop believing their religion and switch. I think that’s
why the last quote is from the bible.
