The Parable of the Sower

There is really no way of being able to tell how exactly the future is going to be. Will the country be in poverty, financially set, on the verge of loosing it all? The way the author viewed 2025 is nothing like the way I picture our country in twelve short years. Two very important trends that constantly come up during the first portion of the book are God and the environment. However, having my own personal Religious views I do not completely agree with all of her statements.
The way her community is built and structured is not the way a community should be established. The richer more wealthier residents and family live in walled neighborhoods. These neighborhoods protect them from the rough outside world and crime. Also, since everything is so corrupt in their neighborhood the crime rates are off the charts. People are constantly being shot, houses are being burnt down and since the community is so poor they are not able to call the proper reinforcements necessary. For example when the little girl Ann got shot her family was not that affected and it was just another day to them. While reading the book I also observed Lauren's hyperempathy and if it is actually a real illness that she possess. However, it does kind of bother me that her father refuses to believe that there is something wrong with her. No matter what I believe you should always support your child no matter what the issue may be. Also, the novel sets up an image of the country practically deteriorating. Most of the water in the south was contaminated, the east had a virus spreading and storms were constantly rolling through. Lauren described the world in 2025 as if the apocalypse was going on. Also, she explains how water cost more then oil which is unheard of in the modern day. Another major difference is that dogs are known as rapid killers that citizens need to watch out for or else they will eat them.
I am very eager to see what the future of this book has to hold. I am anxious to see what Lauren is capable of doing and what her future endeavors are comprised of.
