Kasey Gould     The Parable of the Sower (85-125)

After reading this section of The Parable and the Sower I concluded that Lauren’s family falling apart is a metaphor for their community and possibly the rest of the country. At the beginning of the book the family and community are doing well given their circumstances. As we read however problems start occurring in the family as well as the community. After Keith decided to be an “adult” and steal one of the family’s guns to go outside the wall, it was good to him. After a little while however it went really bad for him as he was tortured and killed. Coincidentally once Keith is killed there’s a rise in the amount of robberies and attempted robberies inside the wall. In the town of Olivar a water treatment plant is being created by KTF a large corporation and hiring people to come work for room and board. Many members of Lauren’s community think about or decide to apply for a position there. Lauren’s wish to have her community eradicated might be coming true.
